Days Gone and Other Games That Deserve a Sequel

Some games are developed with the expectation that they will get a sequel soon. And if this does not happen, fans are left dissatisfied, because the storylines were cut off in the middle. In addition, interesting mechanics can be competently developed in the next part. In this article, we will tell you about projects that never received a sequel, despite the hopes of fans.

BloodRayne 2

  • Year: 2004;
  • Platforms: PC, PS2, PS4, Xbox, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch;
  • Co-op: no.

The BloodRayne duology can hardly be called outstanding. These are games with a simple combat system, monotonous gameplay and not the best plot in the spirit of cheap vampire movies. However, they had their own charm. The ability to drink blood from any ordinary enemy, brutal battles during which enemies lost arms and legs, colorful bosses and a truly spectacular main character — these are the main reasons why players loved the first two BloodRayne. Judging by the comments, the series has a lot of fans, and they are waiting for the third part of the series. But all they got was a remaster of the original dilogy for modern consoles and PC.

The Punisher

  • Year: 2005;
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 2, Xbox;
  • Co-op: no.

In the final scene of the game The Punisher, crime boss Kingsman declares that he wants to kill the Punisher personally. This is a great introduction to the second part, which never came out. Moreover, both characters are well known to modern viewers thanks to the recent series "Daredevil: Born Again", which was released as part of the Marvel cinematic universe.

However, we included this game in the article not only because of the plot. This is a unique action game where it is important to both shoot and torture criminals. This way you will get points that are spent on leveling up. In addition, the brutal reprisals against bandits are completely consistent with the original comic book.

Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3

  • Year: 2008;
  • Platforms: PC, PS3, Xbox 360;
  • Co-op: yes.

Command & Conquer is one of the few strategy series that we miss. For example, the trilogy Red Alert masterfully combined high-quality gameplay, strong humor and a good plot, which was presented with the help of videos with live actors. What's happening can be called cranberry, but it turned out to be neither evil nor stupid, but rather funny. In addition, sending armadas of heavy tanks with two guns and Kirov airships into battle is still interesting. In the third part, Japan was added to the USSR and the Allies with its funny stereotypes, for example, a craving for anime and samurai armor.

Fallout: New Vegas

  • Year: 2010;
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360;
  • Co-op: no.

Todd Howard promised that Fallout 5 will be released after the sixth part of The Elder Scrolls. And there is no talk yet about a direct continuation of New Vegas. Let us recall that in 2010, Obsidian Entertainment combined the ideas of the third part of the series with the features of the original dilogy — an interesting plot, non-linearity and humor. It turned out to be a great game that was liked by both newcomers and those who lived through the times of Fallout 2. In addition, the half-destroyed Las Vegas had a special atmosphere that was not found anywhere else.

It is noteworthy that the events of New Vegas echo the series "Fallout", which will soon get a second season.

Fallout 4 or New Vegas?

L. A. Noire

  • Year: 2011;
  • Platforms: PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch;
  • Co-op: no.

This game is a mix of shootouts with car chases in the format of the GTA series, an interactive film and detective investigations like in police quests. There are no direct analogues to L.A. Noire and there are none expected.

The story of the main character Cole Phelps received a clear ending. However, we would like to see other heroes in this setting. It would also be great to understand the crimes that occurred in other cities of post-war America — gloomy New York, gangster Chicago or sunny San Francisco.

Bloodborne

  • Year: 2015;
  • Platforms: PlayStation 4;
  • Co-op: yes.

Bloodborne is noticeably different from other FromSoftware games. Victorian England as a setting, the horrors of Lovecraft (Howard Phillips Lovecraft) as the basis of the plot, firearms instead of the usual shields — there are indeed many differences from Dark Souls. But even today, after the release of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Elden Ring, it remains unique. It is not surprising that many players would like to return to Old Yharnam or visit other cities of this world.

In the case of Bloodborne, it would be interesting to get a prequel to the main story, in which we would see how good intentions and scientific research turn into a disaster. A sequel, the action of which will take place many years later, like in Dark Souls 3: The Ringed City, would also look good. Unfortunately, Hidetaka Miyazaki's current plans are connected with other projects — Elden Ring Nightreign and The Duskbloods.

The Order: 1886

  • Year: 2015;
  • Platforms: PlayStation 4;
  • Co-op: no.

This game was criticized at the time for the short duration of the story campaign. But at the same time, it had potential. For example, we were shown an unusual universe that combined the realities of Victorian England, the myths of King Arthur, the works of Howard Phillips Lovecraft and retrofuturism. Moreover, what was happening looked surprisingly holistic, and during the passage we were imbued with the atmosphere of the era. The combat system can be called standard, but due to the unusual weapons, it was different from what we had seen in other games.

The Order: 1886 felt like the first episode of a series in which we were shown the introduction and Chekhov's guns were loaded. But they didn't take off, because due to low sales, they never developed the second part.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

  • Year: 2016;
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One;
  • Co-op: no.

Three prequels were planned for the original Deus Ex. However, we only saw two chapters — Human Revolution and Mankind Divided. The third game was supposed to bring the action to the events of the first part and finish the story. But this did not happen — due to weak sales of the 2015 game, the publisher canceled the development of the sequel and froze the series. As a result, the plot was cut off in mid-sentence.

Days Gone

  • Year: 2019;
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, PlayStation 5;
  • Co-op: no.

A game about a post-apocalypse with an open world that can be explored both on foot and by motorcycle. The main enemies here are freaks, local analogues of zombies, who often roam in packs. In addition, you need to fight bandits and establish contact with peaceful people.

And although the main storyline of Days Gone was completed, in the finale they left a clear hint at a sequel. However, according to game director David Jaffe, the developers themselves refused to work on the sequel.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy

  • Year: 2021;
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch;
  • Co-op: no.

The game based on the comics about the Guardians of the Galaxy perfectly conveys the spirit of the original source. Before us is a full-fledged action comedy with really funny jokes, well-written dialogues, funny situations and well-staged battles. Moreover, the gameplay here is based on the constant use of the skills of your teammates. As you progress, new abilities and combos involving several heroes are unlocked. But the enemies also become stronger over time.

Guardians of the Galaxy turned out to be much more successful than the Avengers game, which was released a year earlier. However, there is no talk of a direct sequel yet. Too bad, because we would like to bring another dozen or two hours in the company of Star-Lord, Raccoon, and Groot.
