The Most Important GTA 6 Details: From Official Info to Leaks and Fan Theories

Yesterday, Rockstar not only released the second trailer for GTA 6, but also unveiled a wealth of new details on the official website and shared dozens of previously unseen screenshots. These images offer a lot of additional information and hints about what to expect from the game. Rockstar hasn’t just shed light on GTA 6 — they’ve given fans plenty to discuss for the year ahead. We've gathered the most interesting information available so far — both confirmed details and emerging fan theories inspired by the trailer and screenshots.

Story Premise

GTA 6 centers around two protagonists: former soldier Jason Duval, who grew up among scammers and criminals, and his recently released girlfriend Lucia Caminos. The criminal couple-in-love operate in the fictional state of Leonida, inspired by Florida.

What kind of trouble Jason and Lucia will get into remains unknown, but there’s no doubt they’ll get into plenty. According to the official site:

Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.

What do you think — will GTA 6 feel more like the serious tone of Red Dead Redemption 2 or the ironic, humor-filled GTA 5?

Supporting Characters

Rockstar also revealed a cast of supporting characters. Among them: smuggler Brian Heder, who rents a place to Jason; conspiracy theorist Cal Hampton; record studio owner Bubby Ike; music producer Dre'Quan Priest; singers Bae-Luxe and Roxy; and professional bank robber Raul Bautista. You can read more about them in our dedicated article.

Familiar Voices?

There’s no official word yet on GTA 6's voice actors, but after the second trailer, fans are convinced that Brian Heder is voiced by Stephen Root — known for his role in the series Barry. Additionally, many believe that Cal Hampton is voiced by Saturday Night Live alum Robert Michael “Bobby” Moynihan.

Reflections in the glasses are thanks to ray tracing

Why does this matter? If the community is right, it would mark Rockstar’s return to working with high-profile actors — something they’ve largely avoided for years. Reportedly, after GTA: Vice City, which featured stars like Ray Liotta, the studio imposed a self-restriction due to creative disagreements, demanding agents, and organizational challenges.

Not Quite Florida?

Rockstar also briefly revealed some of GTA 6’s locations. These include the picturesque archipelago Leonida Keys, the swampy Grassrivers region, the redneck town of Port Gellhorn, and the industrial zone of Ambrosia. But the most intriguing place might be Mount Kalaga National Park, where players can explore vast wilderness. Interestingly, Florida doesn’t actually have full-fledged mountains — only some elevated areas in the north.

This suggests the developers aren’t aiming to recreate a 1:1 version of Florida, but are giving themselves some creative freedom to make Leonida a more engaging state to explore.

Heists

The new trailer confirms a long-standing leak: GTA 6 will heavily focus on heists. While the Grand Theft Auto series is all about committing crimes, outside the main storyline, robbing stores or diners has traditionally been underwhelming.

According to a 2022 leak, GTA 6's spontaneous, unscripted robberies are far more dynamic than in any previous Rockstar game. Players can carry them out with an NPC partner. Each diner or store customer has their own behavioral model — some may flee or fight back instead of complying. Hostages’ hands can be zip-tied. Also, players can surrender to the police — thanks to a new Wanted Level system, law enforcement won’t open fire until the player does.

Character Customization

After analyzing the trailer and screenshots, fans concluded that GTA 6 allows players to change not just clothing, but hairstyles too. Many believe the real-time hair growth system from Red Dead Redemption 2 will make a return.

Additionally, some think that the scene where Jason lifts weights hints at a system where physical activities directly affect a character’s appearance — possibly a return of the physique-altering mechanics from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Weapons

What’s a game without an AR-15?

The trailer and images reveal several weapons featured in GTA 6. Jason’s pistol resembles a Beretta M9, while Lucia wields a hybrid between the SIG Sauer P226 and Glock 17. A revolver chambered in .357 Magnum is also shown.

As for heavier arms, GTA 6 includes a rifle similar to the SIG Sauer 556 SWAT, a Browning Citori 725 double-barrel shotgun, an MP5 submachine gun, the classic AK-47, an M249 SAW machine gun, sniper rifles like the M14 and Remington Model 700, and of course, the iconic AR-15. Naturally, there’s also a grenade launcher — Lucia uses one during a car chase in the trailer.

Vehicles

Alongside the standard vehicles you'd expect in GTA 6, some of those shown caught the special attention of fans. For instance, airboats — popular in real-life Florida — make an appearance. Players also began wondering whether characters will be able to use senior mobility scooters. Another highlight was the kayak seen in one of the screenshots.

Finally, gamers are hoping that the large passenger planes shown in the trailer weren’t just for show — and that we’ll actually be able to pilot them. The last game in the series where this was possible was San Andreas.

TV

This one’s straightforward. Based on one of the scenes from the second trailer, it seems the game will allow players to watch television. Expect news broadcasts, shows, and sarcastic commercials.

Official Soundtrack Songs

The recording studio appears in multiple screenshots, though it's still unclear how it will function in the game

The trailer revealed four tracks from the game’s official soundtrack. First up is Hot Together by The Pointer Sisters, which serves as the main music for the entire video. When Jason is driving, you can also hear Child Support by the band Zenglen. At the 35-second mark, the radio plays Everybody Have Fun Tonight by British group Wang Chung. And at 0:45, you’ll hear Talkin' to Myself Again by Tammy Wynette.

AirPods

A screenshot showing Lucia in a pool, wearing what look like wireless earbuds similar to AirPods, led some fans to speculate: are these just cosmetic, or functional? Some players now believe characters might finally be able to listen to the radio outside of a vehicle.

Possible Activities

After analyzing the screenshots, fans compiled a list of potential in-game activities:

  • Hunting;
  • Pool;
  • Boxing in a ring;
  • Diving;
  • Visiting strip clubs;
  • Golf;
  • Watching TV;
  • Fishing;
  • Grocery shopping;
  • Robbing stores;
  • Gym workouts.

Of course, none of this is officially confirmed. It's possible, for example, that Jason wielding a fishing rod is part of a cutscene, not actual gameplay. Still, fishing feels like a logical feature — especially since Rockstar used a similar system in RDR2.

Wildlife Simulation

A screenshot showing a Florida panther hunting deer in the woods was seen by many as confirmation that GTA 6 will feature a complex wildlife system, similar to Red Dead Redemption 2. In that game, Rockstar included over 200 animal species, each with its own behavior, habitat, and response to the player. Predators stalk prey, birds react to gunfire, and fish are influenced by weather and time of day.

Platforms and Release Date

The game has been delayed: GTA 6 is now scheduled for release on May 26 next year for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. A PC version has not yet been announced — nor has a port for the Nintendo Switch 2, assuming one is even in development.

Technical State on PlayStation 5

Rockstar confirmed that the trailer was recorded on a standard PS5 — not a Pro model. According to recent technical breakdowns, experts estimate the footage was rendered at around 1440p resolution and 30 FPS. While Rockstar hasn’t officially confirmed these specs, the trailer showcases advanced graphical technology, including ray tracing and highly detailed textures.

Why Do PC Gamers Have to Wait Again?

The lack of a PC version at launch has sparked another wave of speculation. While some fans point to complex conspiracy theories, the explanation may be simpler. Former Rockstar developer Mike York explained in an interview with IGN that the company prioritizes consoles in order to first deliver the most polished version possible. Rockstar sees the strongest sales performance on consoles. Additionally, because PC hardware comes in a nearly infinite variety of configurations, optimizing for it takes extra time. That’s why work on the PC version usually starts later.

***

The fact that Rockstar Games decided to reveal so much information a year ahead of release is highly uncharacteristic. The studio typically unveils major project details just months before launch. It seems the developers themselves wanted to soften the blow of the delay announcement. In any case, this level of openness is hard to complain about.
