Warner Bros. pleased gamers this year with two major projects that finally made their way to PC. Mid-year, it was Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition, and now Injustice: Gods Among Us has been released, and right away in the Ultimate Edition. This game had previously appeared on Android devices, but it looks like a pale shadow of what the full version is, which anyone can now finally experience.

Training Base

For many, the release of the fighting game Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition was a complete surprise, but the porting of Injustice: Gods Among Us was no less unexpected. It has become customary for fighting games to be released only on consoles lately, and there seems to be no place for them on PC due to the high level of competition.

However, both NetherRealm games can be considered successful, and we have the different game universes on which Mortal Kombat and Injustice are built to thank for that. The first features original characters, while the second is based on the merged worlds of DC Comics.

A video review was also prepared. This time, with poor sound quality, especially for our sophisticated users.

The developers really did a serious job and added a bunch of characters. I think those who know them well will find it very interesting to play Gods Among Us, which offers a story campaign, computer competitions, and multiplayer battles.

If you’re not a fan of comics, you’ll have a hard time understanding the whole story background, as well as some of the superheroes' abilities, of which each has plenty. In that case, you’d better pay attention to Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition.

A Day in the "Justice League"

If you’re interested in the story and its presentation, I can say right away—don’t expect anything supernatural. In fact, what we have here is just one day in the life of the "Justice League." In pursuit of profit, the comic book world has been inflated to such an extent that there are now tons of parallel universes with the same superheroes. So, the whole plot is built on the opposition of one world to another.

This means that in Injustice: Gods Among Us, you have to defeat your own doubles, as well as other characters who keep appearing in the path of the fighters for justice. Gameplay sections are connected by cinematic cutscenes, and it’s thanks to their high quality that Injustice: Gods Among Us can be called an interactive comic. The story, though trivial, is told quite well and with taste.

As mentioned above, the plot tells of battles between superheroes, with both good and bad characters on the player’s side. Each fight takes place in interactive arenas, which are as detailed as those in the recent Mortal Kombat.

It’s also nice that there are several such arenas, so after a successful combo, you can smash your opponent through a wall and end up in a new location. Other special moves allow you to send your opponent into the sky or underground and deal several flashy, sweeping blows there. However, the most effective are still the usual combinations of light and heavy attacks, which can be performed while standing, jumping at the enemy, or sliding under the opponent.

In addition, players can use improvised objects. This makes the fight scenes not only very spectacular but also allows you to deal significant extra damage to your enemies. In single-player, such a blow can even be fatal for the computer dummy, but in multiplayer, opponents will be tougher and get even angrier when they get hit on the head with a huge iron beam or a canister of gasoline.

Hit Them!

If you’re interested in the gameplay features and combos, Injustice: Gods Among Us can offer something new in this regard. In some ways, the combat system copies what we saw in Mortal Kombat, and in other ways, it’s completely different.

Even the basic moves available in the arena are more than a dozen, not to mention the special and unique moves! It will take a lot of time to learn the controls for just one character and their special moves, and remembering the commands for all characters is probably impossible—unless you’re Superman or Batman.

Controls are an important element of any fighting game, and in Injustice, they are at a high level. They’re easy to master if you’re used to console controllers. Otherwise, it’s better to play on a keyboard, since you can assign a separate button for each action. The AI battle mode should help you master all the skills. Here, you can hone your execution of certain moves and memorize clever and useful combos.

Then you can try your hand at player-versus-player or multiplayer. In the first case, just sit a friend down at the keyboard or controller and test your strength. In the second case, you’ll face a more serious challenge, as you’ll still need to unlock the best abilities and the best characters. And considering the skills of some gamers, that’s not so easy. For beginners, the joy of victory will not soon outweigh the bitterness of defeat.

***

In Injustice: Gods Among Us, the developers at NetherRealm managed to capture all the magic of the DC Comics series. There’s a story mode, simple and natural for comic fans, the opportunity to compete with friends or computer opponents, as well as online play.

However, the game cannot be called easy. On higher difficulty levels, and when playing against live opponents, you’ll face a real challenge. The mission will be impossible for those meeting fighting games for the first time, but if you’re a fan of the genre and have been waiting for Injustice on PC, you’ll definitely enjoy the game.

Injustice: Gods Among Us is an excellent project for those who want to have a great time with friends, love fighting games, and are comfortable with a controller. However, since games of this genre are quite rare on PC, you might want to test your skills in the demo version first before deciding to buy.
