What Was Shown at The Game Awards 2025: From Larian’s Next Game to the New Control and Total War: Warhammer 40,000

The Game Awards has long since become one of the most important gaming shows of the year. And first and foremost, its appeal lies not even in the awards themselves (though that obviously matters too), but in the trailers and announcements. Many major AAA releases are revealed to the world for the very first time during Geoff Keighley’s broadcast. TGA 2025 was no exception, featuring a wealth of intriguing projects — all the key trailers of which we’ve collected in this article.

Were you surprised that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 won Game of the Year?
Divinity
Larian Studios, the creators of Baldur’s Gate 3 and Divinity: Original Sin 2, unveiled a shocking trailer for their next game, simply titled Divinity. Shocking in the literal sense — be warned that the trailer depicts a rather brutal human sacrifice. In that regard, the developers have fully outdone the body-horror reveal trailer of BG3 with its mind flayer transformation. On the bright side, we now officially know that the mysterious statue in the desert is connected to Divinity.
If the trailer tells us anything at all, it’s about the tone of the upcoming game: Divinity will most likely be far darker and more serious than Divinity: Original Sin 2. What remains the biggest mystery, however, is the genre. There’s no guarantee it will be a CRPG — earlier entries in the Divinity franchise leaned toward real-time action, and a return to the series’ roots cannot be ruled out.
Control Resonant
Finnish studio Remedy surprised everyone with the announcement of the action RPG Control Resonant. Yes, we knew the company was working on a sequel to Control and expected a genre shift, but few were prepared for changes this radical. At first glance, Control Resonant’s gameplay even resembles the Devil May Cry series, focusing on acrobatic combat and melee weapons. A curious new direction for the franchise.
Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic
One of the most unexpected surprises was the spiritual successor to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, bearing the similar title Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic. This is a single-player narrative-driven action RPG from Arcanaut and Casey Hudson — the game director of the original KOTOR and the Mass Effect trilogy.
Total War: Warhammer 40,000
The long-running rumors have finally been confirmed: Creative Assembly is indeed working on Total War: Warhammer 40,000. The end of the trailer even features brief gameplay footage. Notably, the game was announced not only for PC, but also for Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
Leon in Resident Evil Requiem
Capcom released another trailer for Resident Evil Requiem, introducing Leon Kennedy as the second playable character. Visually, the hero looks a bit older, but judging by the way he stylishly dispatches zombies with spinning kicks, he hasn’t lost his edge.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer
Another new Star Wars game — but in an unusual format. Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a high-speed racing title where players take on the role of participants in an underground Galactic League, organizing illegal pod races.
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve
Nearly six years after the previous entry, Bandai Namco has unveiled Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve. In the sequel, players assume the role of a fighter pilot forced to carry the name of the legendary ace “Wings of Theve” — a myth created to bolster morale during the war for independence of a fictional country. Expect intense aerial battles with arcade-style action and cinematic flair.
Gang of Dragon
An upcoming action-adventure from Yakuza series creator Toshihiro Nagoshi. Gang of Dragon is currently in active development, with no release date announced yet. The game is set on the streets of Tokyo’s Kabukichō district, with actor Ma Dong-seok starring as a high-ranking member of a criminal syndicate.
Tomb Raider: Catalyst
Lara Croft returns in Tomb Raider: Catalyst. Tonally, the new game differs significantly from Crystal Dynamics’ previous trilogy. The grounded, realistic approach to storytelling is gone, replaced by a full dive into classic adventure vibes with stylized action inspired by blockbuster action films of the 1990s and 2000s.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis
Ahead of Catalyst’s release, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is scheduled to launch — a reimagining of the very first game in the series. Everything fans love is here: colorful visuals, journeys to exotic locations, and even battles with dinosaurs.
ONTOS
A psychological horror game from Frictional Games, the creators of SOMA and Amnesia. ONTOS is positioned primarily as a spiritual successor to SOMA. Players take on the role of an engineer trying to uncover the truth about his father and the nature of reality itself while exploring a mysterious, repurposed lunar hotel. Actor Stellan Skarsgård is involved in the project.
John Carpenter's Toxic Commando
The co-op shooter John Carpenter's Toxic Commando launches on March 12. The developers have confirmed cross-play support, co-op for up to four players, selectable character classes, and have also showcased vehicles and weapons, including katanas and grenade launchers.
Bradley the Badger
Geoff Keighley’s show naturally featured not only AAA blockbusters, but also games from smaller teams. One such example is the lively-looking platformer Bradley the Badger, where players control a badger exploring various themed locations commonly seen in popular games: gothic horror, cyberpunk, post-apocalypse.
Orbitals
The cooperative action-adventure Orbitals also looks stunning. The game immediately stands out thanks to its unique art direction, inspired by classic Japanese anime of the 1980s and early 1990s.
Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred
Blizzard announced the expansion Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred and teased the return of Mephisto. The add-on will also introduce a new class — the Paladin.
The Free Shepherd
After the bloody Lord of Hatred trailer, players can cleanse their palate with the announcement trailer for The Free Shepherd — a charming indie project where you play as a sheepdog, herding unruly sheep and exploring strange obelisks rising from the ground.
Pragmata
TGA also featured a new trailer for Pragmata to celebrate the start of pre-orders. Capcom’s unusual futuristic shooter will be released on April 24 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
Phantom Blade Zero
The release date for Phantom Blade Zero has also been revealed — September 9, 2026. For those unaware, Phantom Blade Zero is a long-awaited arcade action game inspired by the Ninja Gaiden franchise. Some influence from FromSoftware titles can be spotted as well, but overall it’s not just another souls-like.
Decrepit
Here’s a game that, according to its creators, draws heavily from the souls genre — Decrepit, a first-person action game where players must fight their way to freedom from an abandoned castle. Death comes at a steep price: the character loses all equipment and must start over from the depths of a dark dungeon cell.
Saros
The release of the next game from the creators of Returnal has been delayed by almost a month. Saros is now set to launch on April 30. A bit disappointing, but not critical.
Stupid Never Dies
The show also featured gameplay footage of Stupid Never Dies — a third-person action game by the newly formed studio GPTRACK50. The team consists of Japanese industry veterans and was founded by former Capcom producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi.
Coven of the Chicken Foot
A puzzle-platformer about an elderly witch named Gertie, who ventures into dark dungeons, dense forests, and catacombs to stop adventurers. Coven of the Chicken Foot humorously subverts classic fantasy tropes, portraying typical heroes as villains.
Order of the Sinking Star
Order of the Sinking Star is a new project by Jonathan Blow, known for Braid and The Witness. The game reimagines the Sokoban genre by combining block-pushing and pulling mechanics with fantasy archetypes inspired by Dungeons & Dragons, multiple characters with unique abilities, and more than a thousand puzzles spread across four worlds.
Solasta 2
Since Dungeons & Dragons has already come up, it’s worth mentioning that the early access date for the ambitious CRPG Solasta 2 has finally been announced — March 12. The project looks like the closest analogue to Baldur’s Gate 3, with a similar level of production quality.
WARLOCK
Solasta 2 wasn’t the only official D&D game shown at TGA. WARLOCK was also announced — a third-person open-world action-adventure inspired by Dungeons & Dragons.
Forest 3
A rather unexpected announcement. Forest 3 is a sci-fi sequel to Sons of the Forest. Judging by the trailer, the core concept remains intact, albeit with a new setting, futuristic gadgets, and new types of horrifying enemies.
Invincible VS
The creators of the superhero fighting game Invincible VS released a new trailer and announced that the game will launch on April 30 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.
Exodus
After a long period of radio silence, we finally got a look at new gameplay from Exodus — a role-playing game in the vein of Mass Effect, developed by many former BioWare veterans, including writer Drew Karpyshyn.
Deadpool in Marvel Rivals
On January 16, a new season kicks off in Marvel Rivals, and the next character to be added will be the fan-favorite Deadpool.
Lords of the Fallen 2
Lords of the Fallen 2 impressed with an extensive gameplay montage, showcasing atmospheric locations, bosses, enemies, weapons, and brutally satisfying finishing animations.
No Law
Krafton is publishing No Law from Swedish studio Neon Giant, known for The Ascent. It’s an RPG-infused shooter set in the cyber-noir city of Port Desire. The protagonist is a war veteran who must use his skills to survive in a crime-ridden megapolis.
Out of Words
The show also featured a new trailer for the cooperative game Out of Words. Its main standout feature is its unique visual style. The project uses handcrafted stop-motion animation with puppets: characters, environments, and objects are first physically created in the real world and then digitized into the game.
Mega Man Dual Override
Capcom has finally answered Mega Man fans’ prayers and, after a seven-year hiatus, announced the twelfth mainline entry in the series — Mega Man Dual Override. With pleasant 2D visuals, just as everyone hoped. The release is planned for 2027, but at least there’s no longer any doubt that Capcom still remembers its classic franchise.
Nioh 3
At TGA, Team Ninja shared new gameplay footage of Nioh 3. Pre-orders for the game also went live, and the video itself revealed that the demo will be available to play starting January 29.
Highguard
The debut project of the new studio Wildlight Entertainment, founded by former developers of Apex Legends and Titanfall. Highguard is a PvP shooter where players control mystical warriors wielding magic and firearms, battling each other in fast-paced firefights. Unsurprisingly, high mobility plays a major role here, with parkour and mounts such as horses, panthers, and bears.
Street Fighter Movie
Finally, a teaser for a full-length feature film based on the cult-classic Street Fighter fighting game franchise. The movie is scheduled to premiere on October 16, 2026.
