How DLSS 4.5 Works: a VGTimes Interview with an NVIDIA Representative at CES 2026
Rodion Ilin
During CES 2026 in Las Vegas, VGTimes editor-in-chief Rodion Ilin visited NVIDIA’s booth, where a company representative Kyle Suddarth used Black Myth: Wukong to clearly demonstrate the difference between the previous version of the DLSS upscaler and its new generation.
NVIDIA: Just yesterday, we announced DLSS 4.5. And here you can see a side-by-side comparison of DLSS 4 versus DLSS 4.5. DLSS 4.5 introduces several key new features. The first one is a second-generation Transformer model for Super Resolution. This results in better lighting, increased stability, improved anti-aliasing, and reduced ghosting.
As you can see here on this scene, on the DLSS 4 side, the particles are barely visible, while on the DLSS 4.5 side they are much more defined and brighter. Lighting has also improved. If you look at the background here, it looks like there’s only a single open block, but on this side you can see much more detail in the wall itself. There’s also additional sharpness on the armor elements and the weapon compared to DLSS 4.

Additionally, this spring DLSS 4.5 will introduce upgraded Multi Frame Generation. DLSS 4 supported what we call 4× Multi Frame Generation — one rendered frame followed by three generated frames. DLSS 4.5 will be able to generate up to five generated frames plus one rendered frame, which we call 6× mode.
On top of that, Multi Frame Generation will also get a dynamic mode this spring. Depending on the game and the specific scene, the frame generation multiplier will dynamically adjust to maintain a target frame rate.
VGTimes: How long have you been working on this specific update — DLSS 4.5?
NVIDIA: DLSS as a whole has been in development for at least a decade but I have no information regarding specifically this latest version.
VGTimes: How many game developers are already using it?
NVIDIA: I don’t know the exact number of developers, but DLSS 4, specifically the Multi Frame Generation feature, is already supported in over 250 games and applications. DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution will be available in more than 400 games and applications.
VGTimes: Thank you.
NVIDIA: Thank you.
What do you prefer in games — upscaling or native resolution?

VGTimes has been operating since 2011 and during this time has attended dozens of exhibitions and festivals where our journalists gathered numerous exclusive materials. For example, in 2019 we attended a closed Cyberpunk 2077 showing at gamescom, in 2017 we prepared a photo report from WG Fest, in 2020 we were at Central Asia's largest gaming event CAGS, and we also visited "IgroMir" several times, where we saw Hideo Kojima and other famous developers. Last year, we traveled to the land of the rising sun for TGS 2024, where we were amazed by the scale of the event. And this year we saw with our own eyes one of Asia's major gaming exhibitions — ChinaJoy in Shanghai and gamescom asia in Bangkok.
