Pokemon Gold, Silver came out on the Game Boy Color back in 1999. The first time I got my hands on it was back in 2009 and it immediately hooked me. So what is the secret of her success?
Graphics:
Nowadays it is very fashionable to judge games by their graphics, and laptops can produce a picture equal to medium-high on a PC. The graphics in the second generation (Pokémon games are divided into generations. At the time of writing, the 8th was released) are hopelessly outdated. But for a portable console in 99 it was very cool.
Plot:
Well, there’s not much to say about the plot. We play as the 10th boy (you can choose a girl in Pokemon Crystal) who goes on a journey at the request of the professor. We collect colorful animals, defeat the bandits, get eight badges and become a champion. But despite this, the game is very long. After becoming a champion, a new region opens. And everything starts all over again, but much more complicated. There we will meet the characters of the first part, and even fight with them!
Gameplay:
If you have played any part of Pokemon or Final Fantasy, then you have played almost all JRPGs. I will not reveal the unique mechanics of Pokemon, so as not to spoil the impressions of the game
Controls:
Extremely simple. D-pad to move, two buttons: Yes/No, start=pause, select - automatic use of a certain item (map or bicycle for example)
Sound and music:
There are no questions about the sound. The music is clean, there is no terrible echo from the Game Boy, 8bit produces compositions that the big N cannot even repeat for unknown reasons.
Multiplayer:
Multiplayer is rather weak by today's standards. You connect two GBCs using a wire or infrared and trade or fight with a friend.
Localization:
The game (as well as the entire franchise) does not have an official localization. But enthusiasts from the Shedevr group made a very high-quality translation. If you have problems with English, this is for you.
P.S. The game is exclusive to Nintendo consoles. If you don’t want to look for an old GBC or buy a 3DS, you can download an emulator for PC and Android. I won't tell you anything more! Continue on your own! And don't break copyright laws!
