A unique psychological horror, but not a masterpiece, as many people think.
The Silent Hill series, in principle, contains little logic and clarity of what is happening, but in the second part this point is completely absent. Absolutely everything, from the introduction to every dialogue and ending, is inadequate and necessarily has some kind of symbolic, referring to something subtext. They say that this is the most terrible horror, but I was scared 5 times, not even because you can easily kill any reptile with a rusty pipe without making much effort, this thing is a fairly common detail in horror films, but nevertheless they are scary (The Evil Within, Resident Evil 1,2 are witnesses to this). Here the point is different: every living soul in this game absolutely does not care about what is happening. It makes absolutely no difference to anyone the hero speaks to that the city is infested with monsters; moreover, the hero himself doesn’t care, he simply sticks his hand into a hole in the wall and does not feel any fear, and as a result the player, like everyone else, those around you also don’t care about what’s happening, and the fear disappears. The same Silent Hill 1,3,4, origins, even the disastrous Homecoming, and even that is more frightening than the second part.
Nevertheless, the game has a fairly strong plot and atmosphere. The puzzles in the game are simply gorgeous, and the graphics are even better than in many modern games, even the hero is displayed in the mirror, but not in the new Dead Island 2.
Now, it seems like Silent Hill is located in America, but it feels like it’s some kind of typical CIS city that just got more than most similar cities.
The game also has one of the best sounds in the industry.
An incredibly large number of secrets, small details, very rich lore, a large number of endings (including secret ones), etc.
But it’s almost impossible to run this brainchild on modern hardware; to do this you need to install the necessary emulator, configure the controls, download several patches, a Russifier, etc. But if you can still do it, then enjoy, you're lucky!
Interesting fact: what happens in SH2 does not fit into the sectarian theme of the other games in the series.
I recommend it to people who love strong and atmospheric games.
