I still remember how I saw the trailer for this game on the Country of Games disc. And then the trailer didn’t impress me in any way because it resembled a typical copy of CoD only from the third person, well, there was still a lot of sand (I don’t sand, as they say), so the game naturally passed me by at release.
And this turned out to be a mistake, because under the guise of a shooter about brave American soldiers bringing democracy, the developers from Yager hid a diamond that, through a frightening story, tells one simple truth that is not so often touched upon in video games - war is hell.
Yes, the diamond is not the best shooting mechanic, which is simply not felt, but even this, it seems to me, can be forgiven. For we take control of Martin Walker - a soldier, commander, or rather, a machine that was created for one purpose - to destroy enemies. And so all this “shallow” and “easy” shooting mechanics made sense to me and was easily compensated for, because I was playing as a trained soldier who knows what a weapon is and how to use it, and you will have to use it a lot.
Since Walker is a commander, it is possible to command two of his subordinates - Lugo and Adams - who can suppress or cover the enemy, everything depends only on the player himself and the situation in which he finds himself. And Walker’s partners are not just dummies scurrying around for show, no, they are well-written characters with their own personalities, soldiers with their own useful skills, but above all, they are people who will react to the actions of the player in this hell, which is located in Dubai. And there is plenty of action in the game, starting from the most famous scene with phosphorus and ending with the final race, in some places reminiscent of the ravings of a madman, to the tower where the main goal is located that our trio needs to get to - Colonel Conrad.
The developers were able to create in Dubai the atmosphere of a kind of sandy and sultry post-apocalypse, frightening and enchanting at the same time, which will never let go. And in the end, the player, like Conrad, having gone through all this horror (and such a game must be played on fubar difficulty) will hear from the serviceman a simple truth: “You wanted to become a hero, so you paid for it. Well, what did you want? That’s it.” on garlic."
Damn son, I love this game.
