Star Citizen story campaign gets new release date
The developers of the ambitious long-term project Star Citizen have finally announced the release date of the single-player story mode Squadron 42. The announcement took place during the next Citizencon — although not without some unfortunate incidents.
Let us recall that Star Citizen was announced back in 2012 as the largest space simulator, and since then the project's budget has exceeded 720 million dollars. The game should also get a single-player story mode Squadron 42, in which such famous actors as Gary Oldman, Liam Cunningham, Gillian Anderson, Mark Hamill and even Henry Cavill played.
At Citizencon, the developers from Cloud Imperium Games presented new gameplay, showing the first chapter of Squadron 42 with the exploration of the first regions. At the same time, they announced that the single-player campaign will be released in 2026, and will take 30-40 hours to complete. Initially, the release was supposed to take place in 2018, but since then the date has been postponed many times.
The presentation did not go very well — the demo version of Squadron 42 stopped working during a live broadcast in front of thousands of viewers. Moreover, the failure happened twice, but the developers attributed it to the computer, and not the technical condition of the game.
Star Citizen itself is still in production and has not even received an approximate release window. However, the Cloud Imperium Games studio assures that the development has already entered the «finishing stretch» — even updated system requirements have recently appeared.
