Playable and Buggy: Former Rockstar Developer Discusses GTA 6's Readiness

Since its announcement, there have been multiple insider reports that Grand Theft Auto 6 could be delayed to 2026. However, a former Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA 5 animator is confident that the project is almost ready and is undergoing testing.

In a recent interview with Kiwi Talkz (removed at the request of the developer), Mike York suggested that GTA 6 in its current state can already be played from start to finish. Despite rumors of a possible delay, the Rockstar Games team is probably polishing the project before release.

They're probably still making a few new things here and there or adding to things here and there, of course, but I would assume that the game's probably playable now, and a bunch of people are testing the whole thing all the way through. There's probably a ton of bugs..., and they're trying to find as many bugs as they can before they release because a game like GTA is unlike any other game.

Rockstar did something similar before the release of GTA 5. Then, according to the animator, the developers played the build for 8-10 hours to find all possible errors.

Recall that the release of the new part of the crime action game is scheduled for the fall of 2025. The game will be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Earlier in the same interview, Mike York mentioned that Grand Theft Auto 6 will have an open world on a completely different level than The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. He also suggested that the project will only run at 30 FPS at launch.
