Fans Theorize Plot Twist in GTA 6 Involving Jason Duvall's Allegiances

It seems Grand Theft Auto 6 might offer more than just the chaotic action the series is known for — fans are speculating a dramatic twist reminiscent of Red Dead Redemption. The latest theory centers on protagonist Jason Duvall possibly leading a double life.
In the second trailer, some viewers spotted clues suggesting Jason might be working with the police. One particular scene shows him storming a building in what appears to be police tactical gear. Fans also pointed out a prison guard’s suspicious question — asking Jason if they’d seen him before — and a moment where another character outright accuses him of being a fed.

A growing theory on Reddit suggests Jason may be cooperating with law enforcement against his will, drawing comparisons to RDR’s John Marston. According to the theory, Jason’s relationship with Lucia Caminos might be part of a larger undercover mission to infiltrate her criminal circle. This setup could lead to a major narrative fork: betray Lucia and complete his mission, or abandon it all and choose a life of crime with her.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch on May 26, 2026, for Xbox Series X/S and PS5. A PC version has yet to be confirmed. You can read our breakdown of the second trailer here.
