Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy Announced by the Creators of Rogue Trader and Pathfinder
Diana Golenko
Owlcat Games has unveiled Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, a new isometric RPG set in the grimdark universe of eternal war. This time, players will take on the role of an Inquisitor investigating heresy in the Calixis Sector.
Become an acolyte of the Inquisition in this grim dark, party-based, story-driven cRPG. Lead investigations, uncover grand conspiracies, master tactical combat, and wage a secret war against heresy. Make tough choices as a conduit of the God-Emperor’s will.
The developers promise a deep investigation system, unique party members such as a Catachan Guardsman or a Kroot xenos, robust companion management mechanics, high interactivity, and unusual scenarios — including a maddening star. As Owlcat emphasizes, players are not meant to seek justice, but rather to protect the Imperium at any cost, meaning your Inquisitor can accuse anyone. You'll also be able to intimidate enemies to the point of breaking, forcing them to surrender.
Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy is now available to wishlist on Steam. No release date has been announced yet. The game is being developed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
This announcement comes amid a wave of new Warhammer 40,000 reveals, including remasters of the original Dawn of War and the Space Marine action game. The boomer shooter Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 was also announced, along with the release of the free title Boltgun — Words of Vengeance.
