CD Projekt RED Accidentally Reveals The Witcher 4 Will Feature New Controls

During the celebration of the 10th anniversary of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CD Projekt RED developers accidentally shared a gameplay detail about the upcoming The Witcher 4. The new title will reportedly feature a completely revamped control scheme — at least for certain mechanics.
While playing through The Witcher 3 live on stream, The Witcher 4 narrative director Philipp Weber ran into trouble performing dodges and rolls, repeatedly pressing the wrong key. The team had to remind him to use the "A" key. At that moment, Weber admitted, "I'm actually using Witcher 4 controls...spoiler".
His comment suggests that development has progressed to the combat system stage, with CDPR experimenting with updated control layouts. However, a full gameplay reveal is unlikely to happen anytime soon — full-scale production on the game only began in November 2024.
Previously, CD Projekt RED revealed that Ciri was originally considered as the main protagonist back in 2014. More recently, Geralt's voice actor criticized fans who claimed to detect an "agenda" in The Witcher 4.
