Rumor: New Tomb Raider Could Launch Around the Same Time as GTA 6

A supposed leak has surfaced on Reddit regarding the upcoming Tomb Raider game, which is said to be in development using Unreal Engine 5. As the original post did not cite a credible source, the information should be taken with a healthy dose of skepticism.
The post has since been deleted by the user along with their account, but members of the r/TombRaider subreddit archived its contents. Here are the key details about the new Lara Croft adventure and related franchise projects:
- The new Tomb Raider will reportedly drop the “12” from its title and is being developed under the codename "Black Diamond";
- Development was effectively rebooted in summer 2023;
- The game may launch in May 2026, coinciding with the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 — though the date could shift due to Rockstar’s blockbuster;
- A gameplay reveal is being considered for February 14, 2026, aligning with the series’ 30th anniversary, with a formal announcement possibly coming this summer;
- The previously rumored "Society of Raiders" was reportedly an internal test by Crystal Dynamics to gauge fan reactions to a new faction;
- Aspyr is said to be working on remasters of Tomb Raider: Legend, Tomb Raider: Anniversary, and Tomb Raider: Underworld, with a planned release date of February 14, 2026 — recent leaks included models from a canceled remake;
- Remaster plans for the Tomb Raider: Survivor Trilogy were reportedly scrapped due to budget constraints.
Additionally, the source claims that Season 2 of the anime Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft is scheduled for release in October 2025. Two more franchise crossovers, similar to the one with Dead by Daylight, are allegedly in the pipeline. The rumor also said that the series starring Sophie Turner as Lara Croft will feature a combined look of the character, combining the classic and Survivor Trilogy versions.
It’s worth noting that Embracer Group may have hinted at the new Tomb Raider’s release window in a previous financial report. Based on job listings, the game could be in the late stages of development.
