Following the official announcement by Konami and Bloober Team of a remake of the original 1999 Silent Hill, the game’s creator, Keiichiro Toyama, has shared his thoughts on the project and what he hopes to see in this modern reimagining.

In an interview with Al Hub, Toyama compared the emotional impact of the announcement to the moment Silent Hill was first adapted into a live-action film — a time when the characters and locations he created were brought to life on screen. Though he is not directly involved in the remake, Toyama expressed openness to bold reinterpretations that breathe new life into the classic.

I felt something similar when the game was turned into a film. It was deeply moving to see the names and locations I created brought to life visually, even though I wasn’t directly involved. None of this would’ve been possible without the continued support of fans and the efforts of developers who kept the series alive.

I’m excited to see how the game will be reimagined this time. With today’s advanced technology, I’m confident I’ll be surprised by the results. The original was made for PlayStation 1, which had its limitations — the camera, the controls — so I’m looking forward to bold and fresh interpretations.
— Keiichiro Toyama

The Silent Hill remake is being developed by Bloober Team, the studio behind the remake of Silent Hill 2. No release date or additional details have been revealed yet.

Last year, Toyama released Slitterhead, an action-horror title that received positive reviews from both players and critics. Meanwhile, new information has recently emerged about Silent Hill f, the next mainline entry in the series, which aims to return the franchise to its Japanese roots.
