Electronic Arts has announced that it will be shutting down the servers for BioWare's ill-fated action game, Anthem, in 2026. The complete cessation of support for the game will occur on January 13th.
EA stated that they have no plans to add an offline mode to Anthem, as the project was originally conceived as an online-only game. On July 3rd, the developers disabled the ability to purchase crystals. Any remaining premium currency can be spent until the servers are shut down.
Anthem was released in 2019 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The project was widely panned by both critics and players. The action game received a score of 59/100 from journalists and 4/10 from gamers on Metacritic.
In related news, Microsoft recently cancelled Perfect Dark, Everwild, and an unannounced MMORPG.
