Ubisoft Faces Renewed Criticism Over User Agreement — But It's Common Industry Practice

A controversial clause in Ubisoft’s End User License Agreement (EULA) has once again sparked backlash from players — though it turns out the practice is widespread across the industry.
As pointed out by blogger Pirat_Nation, Ubisoft's EULA includes a clause that instructs players to delete all copies of their games if their account is banned. The condition quickly drew criticism, especially given Ubisoft’s past statements and other contentious EULA elements, such as data collection policies.

However, this time the backlash may be misplaced. Similar clauses appear in the EULAs of other major games. Both Baldur's Gate 3 by Larian Studios and Phasmophobia by Kinetic Games include comparable language. The latter's developers have previously addressed concerns from players, noting that this is standard legal wording used by many publishers.
This controversy comes shortly after three former Ubisoft executives were handed suspended prison sentences following investigations into workplace abuse and sexual misconduct.
