IGN Reveals Which Hideo Kojima Game Has the Most Cutscenes — And It's Not Death Stranding

Long cinematic cutscenes and Hideo Kojima go together like Michael Bay and explosions. So, IGN journalists set out to determine which of the legendary game designer’s titles features the most cinematics — and the results were somewhat unexpected.
According to their analysis, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots tops the list. The game is made up of approximately 40% cutscenes, totaling a staggering 7.5 hours of cinematics out of an average 18.5-hour playthrough. Surprisingly, Death Stranding and its sequel only came in second and third in terms of total cutscene length:
- Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots – 7 hours 31 minutes;
- Death Stranding – 6 hours 22 minutes;
- Death Stranding 2: On the Beach – 6 hours 1 minute;
- Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater – 4 hours 13 minutes;
- Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain – 3 hours 42 minutes;
- Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty – 3 hours 1 minute;
- Metal Gear Solid – 2 hours 20 minutes.
Interestingly, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain has the lowest cutscene-to-gameplay ratio among Kojima’s titles. In-game cinematics make up only 8.13% of the average playtime. Another fun fact from IGN: the final cutscene of the Metal Gear Solid 4 game movie is just 10 minutes shorter than Pixar’s 1995 Toy Story — it runs for a full 71 minutes.
