Mafia: The Old Country Compared to Other Mafia Games — «Dead» World, but Top-Tier Detail
Diana Golenko
The recent release of Mafia: The Old Country has prompted fans to compare the new entry in the series with its predecessors. YouTube creator Realistic GameZ chose Mafia 3 and the remake Mafia: Definitive Edition for the comparison.
It’s likely the YouTuber opted for technically similar titles rather than placing Mafia: The Old Country on Unreal Engine 5 alongside classic entries limited by their era’s technology. As a result, the new game stood out in terms of detail — water reacts realistically to gunfire, glass shatters like in real life, and burning cars have tires that gradually burst. On the other hand, The Old Country’s world turned out to be non-interactive: NPCs don’t respond to weapon threats, vehicles and horses can’t be stolen, and swimming is entirely off-limits for the protagonist.
For reference, Mafia: The Old Country launched on August 7 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5. The game received positive reviews from both players and critics, but its optimization was deemed unsatisfactory.
