Bosses in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Became Immortal Due to Censorship — Players Criticize Patch 1.5
The recently released souls-like Wuchang: Fallen Feathers from Chinese studio Leenzee Games has already received a lot of criticism for its optimization. However, the developers have now rolled out Patch 1.5 featuring a controversial change that has angered many players.
As players discovered, some bosses have effectively become invulnerable — instead of being killed, fights with them now end with the bosses resting, appearing exhausted, or even declaring that the battle was merely a test. This radical change was first pointed out by blogger and modder Lance McDonald, who accused the developers of quietly censoring the game without mentioning it in the patch notes.
Reportedly, the studio made these changes following complaints from Chinese players, who criticized the developers for allowing the killing of real historical figures in the game. Since Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is set in an alternate version of Ming dynasty China plagued by a mysterious disease, the developers responded by making certain characters unkillable. Players on Steam argue that this completely undermines the game’s meaning and storyline — a sentiment even some Chinese gamers share.
Improving game performance is welcoming. But this must be the first time I've heard of story plot change post release. As far as I am aware. Plot change made the story completely different, and even make some of the characters motivation pointless.
Update 1.5 completely ruined the story, adding childish and absurd details, censoring it outright, and betraying those of us who thought the original plot was good.
Real players are waiting for fixes to important issues, but instead you release updates just to please a group of people who don’t even play the game? Do you think they’ll come back and shower you with positive reviews?.. I hope that crowd you’re catering to gives you those ‘pluses,’ because my positive review is gone after Patch 1.5.
At the time of writing, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers holds a 50% user score on Steam. You can read our review here.
