Sony has unveiled a brand-new gameplay trailer for the open-world action-adventure Ghost of Yotei, focusing on the game’s combat system and the fluid switching between melee and ranged attacks during battles.

Players will have access to a wide arsenal of weapons, including the katana (with dual-wielding options), tanegashima, odachi, yari, kusarigama, and the traditional kaginawa grappling hook, allowing for a variety of tactical approaches. The game features dynamic weather effects—such as snow, rain, and the northern lights—inspired by the natural beauty of the Mount Yotei region.

The story structure is non-linear, letting players decide the order in which they take on enemies, as well as accept side quests like bounty hunting.

Additional activities include visiting onsens, bamboo cutting, sumi-e painting, and setting up camp, where your character can cook and play the shamisen. Alongside the returning “Kurosawa Mode,” new visual styles inspired by the works of Takashi Miike and Shinichiro Watanabe have been added.

Ghost of Yotei is set to launch on October 2 this year exclusively for PlayStation 5. You can find more details about the project here.

Incidentally, Ghost of Yotei has already drawn comparisons to Sucker Punch Productions’ previous title, Ghost of Tsushima.
