The worlds of The Witcher games and books were finally connected in Andrzej Sapkowski’s recent novel Crossroads of Ravens. Now, it’s CD Projekt RED’s turn to include another reference to the Polish author’s work in The Witcher 4.
According to narrative director Philipp Weber, just like the nods to Season of Storms in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the new game will also take into account certain details from the fresh novel about Geralt’s youth. From his words, one can assume that the fourth installment will not only revisit Ciri’s adoptive father and the main hero of the original trilogy but also expand his presence. Fans might also encounter new monsters and characters described in Crossroads of Ravens.
I can't reveal how exactly we'll do it, but Season of Storms also came out while we developed The Witcher 3, so we still tried to include some of the new elements. You can expect something similar!
The game series has had a rather complicated relationship with Andrzej Sapkowski’s literary original. However, the author recently incorporated the Viper School from CDPR’s games into his new novel about Geralt. In addition, Sapkowski continues to advise the studio on The Witcher lore.
As for The Witcher 4, the RPG is still in development without a release date. Recently, CD Projekt RED expanded the team to 444 employees. At State of Unreal 2025, the studio also showcased the game’s first tech demo — you can find all the details in this article.
