On September 4, the highly anticipated metroidvania Hollow Knight: Silksong was finally released. The sheer volume of players overwhelmed Steam’s servers, making the game’s store page temporarily inaccessible. Within just one day, Silksong racked up over 9,000 positive reviews. At the time of writing, its rating sits at an impressive 96%.
Most gamers are celebrating in the reviews, thanking Team Cherry for delivering on their promise and releasing a game that truly lives up to fan expectations.
The game’s launch-day numbers on Steam were just as impressive, peaking at 535,000 concurrent players.
In Hollow Knight: Silksong, players take on the role of the deadly huntress Hornet, embarking on a journey through the fallen insect kingdom of Pharloom. The game’s world is filled with mossy caverns, golden cities, and misty swamps, leading players toward a radiant citadel at the kingdom’s summit.
Gameplay revolves around fast-paced, acrobatic combat against more than 200 enemies and over 40 unique bosses. Players can craft new weapons, traps, and gadgets, unlock additional abilities, complete quests for the world’s inhabitants, and uncover ancient secrets. For veterans, the “Steel Soul” mode offers an extra challenge. The atmosphere is further enhanced by an orchestral soundtrack composed by Christopher Larkin.
