New Ghost of Yotei Trailer Showcases Odachi Combat — The Iconic Long Japanese Sword

Sony has released another trailer for the upcoming open-world action-adventure Ghost of Yotei. In the latest video, the developers highlight gameplay featuring the odachi — a type of Japanese sword known for its impressive length.

The footage shows the main character, Atsu, wielding the odachi in battle against multiple enemies. The game offers a variety of other weapons, including the katana, tanegashima (firearm), yari (spear), kusarigama (chain sickle), and kaginawa (grappling hook), promising a tactical edge to combat.

Ghost of Yotei features dynamic weather effects like snow, rain, and the northern lights, all inspired by real conditions around Mount Yotei. The game’s open mission structure allows players to choose the order in which they face enemies, leading to branching storylines.

In addition to the main campaign, players can take on side quests and activities such as hunting criminals, relaxing in hot springs, bamboo cutting, and new features like sumi-e painting and setting up camp to cook meals and play the shamisen. Alongside the returning Kurosawa mode from the previous game, new cinematic modes inspired by Takashi Miike and Shinichiro Watanabe have also been added.

Ghost of Yotei launches exclusively on PS5 on October 2 this year. In the previous gameplay trailer, the developers showcased ranged attacks.
