Call of Duty and Hellblade 2 Dev Unveils New Game — An Atmospheric Horror Set in a Mysterious Forest

Pasquale Scionti, a developer known for his work on Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 and Call of Duty: Vanguard, is now working solo on a new project called Whispers in the Fog. Built with Unreal Engine 5.6.1 and powered by Lumen and Nanite technologies, the game promises a haunting experience.

Whispers in the Fog is described as a first-person atmospheric psychological horror where players explore a fog-shrouded forest stripped of familiar landmarks. The protagonist wakes up in the rain among the trees, with no memory of the past and only a flashlight for company. Dense fog, eerie whispers, and mysterious figures create a constant sense of isolation and tension. As you explore, you’ll uncover abandoned villages, tunnels, graveyards, and other dark locations—piecing together a fragmented story through objects, notes, and symbols.

Gameplay centers on exploration, clue-hunting, and puzzle-solving, without the usual combat mechanics. Survival depends on your observation skills, memory, and the courage to move forward despite the voices that sometimes guide and sometimes deceive. The atmosphere is further enhanced by dynamic weather, cinematic lighting, volumetric fog, and immersive audio where whispers and forest sounds become a core part of the experience.

Whispers in the Fog focuses on non-linear exploration, a minimal interface, and deep immersion. There are no cheap jump scares—tension builds gradually, creating a lasting feeling of psychological unease and hidden threat.

There’s no release date yet, but the game already has a Steam page.

Recently, another atmospheric horror title, Cronos: The New Dawn, launched to very positive player reviews and mostly high scores from critics.
