"Kojima Could Just Make A New Game In That Style" — Devil May Cry and Resident Evil 2 Creator Still Impressed by P.T.

Hideki Kamiya, the legendary developer behind Okami, Resident Evil 2, Bayonetta, and Devil May Cry, recently shared his thoughts on P.T. — the demo for Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro’s canceled horror project.
P.T. was released in 2014 on PS4 as a free teaser for Silent Hills. However, after Konami canceled the game in 2015, the demo was removed from the PlayStation Store, making it impossible to download. As a result, old PS4 consoles with P.T. installed started selling for high prices at auctions.
On X, Hideki Kamiya wrote that if reviving P.T. is impossible, Kojima should create a new game in the same style. If Kojima doesn’t do it, Kamiya joked that he might try himself — though he admitted he doesn’t like horror games and has no ideas for one.
If it’s impossible to bring P.T. back, Kojima could just make a new game in that style… If he doesn’t, maybe I’ll give it a shot… But I don’t like horror games, so it wouldn’t be horror… and honestly, I have no ideas…
As fans know, Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions are currently working on an experimental horror game called OD, which may partially fill the void left by P.T. Kojima promises to explore the limits of fear and is collaborating with director Jordan Peele. Details are still scarce, but Kojima is planning a special event in Tokyo on September 23 to mark the 10th anniversary of his departure from Konami and the founding of his independent studio — and we might get more info about OD there.
Kamiya also mentioned that while he can’t play P.T. alone, he admires the demo and considers it revolutionary. He believes that games with similar mechanics and atmosphere (like The Exit 8) should be referred to as “P.T.-likes.” The Exit 8 is less scary and gory, but uses the same looping corridor mechanic and went viral for it.
I want to play P.T. again… It was awesome… But too scary for me to play alone… Everyone’s talking about The Exit 8, but it’s basically a “lite P.T.”… When I played P.T., I thought: “What a brilliant idea”… P.T. is gone forever, and The Exit 8 appeared in that void… That’s why it feels weird to call these games “8-likes”… Historically, it’s more accurate to call them “P.T.-likes”…
Currently, Hideki Kamiya is working on the sequel to Okami at his new studio, Clovers, after leaving PlatinumGames in 2023.
