Dataminer: GTA 6 Will Feature a Crime System Similar to Red Dead Redemption 2

Respected insider and dataminer Tez2 has shared a small rumor regarding the crime system in Grand Theft Auto 6. It seems Rockstar Games has built upon mechanics from Red Dead Redemption 2, modifying and adding new features.
The information surfaced during a discussion of leaked Rage Engine code from 2022, when users noticed unused lines in GTA 5 related to minor offenses such as speeding. This code has carried over from game to game since GTA 3, leading many to speculate that such mechanics might finally appear in the sixth installment. Tez2 dismissed the idea, stating: "R* changed the crime system's format in RDR2, which is what VI will be based on, so those crimes listed may not carry over as-is."
For context, in Red Dead Redemption 2, NPCs could witness crimes and report them to the law. To stop them, the player could intimidate, bribe, or even kill the NPC. The justice system also separated wanted levels by state, allowing players to evade capture simply by moving to another region — or pay off their bounty without consequence.
According to earlier rumors, the game may also feature a six-star wanted system.
GTA 6 is currently scheduled to release on May 26, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Previously, respected gaming journalist Tom Henderson suggested that Rockstar might delay the action game once again.
