Gearbox Head Acknowledges Borderlands 4 Issues: The Longer You Play, the Worse the Performance Gets

After previously declaring that Borderlands 4 was a “premium game for premium gamers,” Randy Pitchford has now addressed the widespread player complaints about performance. So far, however, the Gearbox Software CEO has only acknowledged issues with the shooter’s launch on PS5.
It turns out console players are also experiencing technical problems. Videos circulating online show that even the PlayStation 5 struggles with Borderlands 4, reducing the gameplay to a slideshow. One Reddit user, That_Wet_Banana69, demonstrated this by running the game at max graphics settings — only to get a single frame per second.
Other PS5 owners have reported severe memory leaks. The longer the game runs, the worse the performance gets on consoles — similar to what was seen with The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered on Unreal Engine 5. Eventually, Randy Pitchford acknowledged the issue, advising players to restart the game as a temporary fix:
Known issue of perf dropping on PS5 pro after several hours of continuous play. Workaround until we patch: Quit game and restart. Sorry for the friction!

In the replies to his post, players also reported similar memory leak issues on PC and Xbox Series X/S, though Pitchford has not yet addressed those complaints.
Just recently, Gearbox released an accolades trailer for Borderlands 4 highlighting positive critic reviews. The shooter also received a small PC update aimed at fixing some of its performance problems.
