Following the gameplay showcase from DICE, the Battlefield-focused account Battlefield Bulletin has shared a range of details about the Battlefield 6 story campaign. Players can expect nine missions spanning three continents, with a total playtime of around 4–6 hours.
Some of the missions were already shown to the press during a digital preview — including Operation Gladius, Operation Ember Strike, and No Sleep. Each of them reportedly took around 25–40 minutes to complete. One of the early missions drops the Dagger 13 squad into North Africa for a large-scale tank battle near the pyramids of Giza. Later, the team heads into the heart of New York City, fighting through the war-torn streets of Brooklyn. Another mission takes players to Gibraltar, where they storm Pax Armata fortifications in a sequence reminiscent of WWII beach landings. In one of the most dramatic set pieces, Dagger 13 sabotages a massive hydroelectric dam in Tajikistan, unleashing devastating floodwaters on enemy forces.
The campaign will follow a single cohesive storyline, rather than the separate “war stories” seen in Battlefield 1 and V. Missions will feature both linear sections and large open spaces that allow players to choose which objectives to tackle first. Mission 8, Operation Ember Strike, is described by the developers as the most open, sandbox-like level. One of the missions is also set in the year 2028, with the plot unfolding over several years.
Players will fight alongside their squad for most of the campaign. Teammates can be given simplified commands such as calling in smoke cover, suppressing enemies, flanking maneuvers, or RPG support. If a squad member is downed, they can be dragged to cover and revived. The same applies to the main character: when killed, the player enters a “downed state” until rescued.
The campaign will let players take control of multiple members of Dagger 13, each belonging to different classes such as Engineer or Recon. Hardcore players will be able to test themselves with Veteran difficulty — and an even tougher mode above it.
Missions will feature hidden collectibles and extensive environmental destruction. However, there are a few caveats: the campaign requires a constant internet connection, and early reports suggest AI issues.
Battlefield 6 launches on October 10 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. The shooter will also feature a free Battle Royale mode, gameplay of which has already leaked online. Our preview from the game’s open beta is available at this link.
