The original 2006 Bully, while very different from the Grand Theft Auto series, still found its audience of fans. However, despite its success and positive reviews, a sequel never materialized.
In a recent conversation with IGN at L.A. Comic Con, Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser revealed for the first time why fans never got a follow-up. The main issue for the studio was limited resources — at the time, they simply couldn’t handle multiple projects simultaneously.
If you’ve got a small lead creative team and a small leadership crew you just can’t do all the projects you want.
He also confirmed that Rockstar had seriously considered Bully 2 at one point, but ultimately had to abandon the idea due to these limitations. It’s worth noting that back in 2022, insider journalist Tom Henderson suggested the studio had returned to the series despite working on GTA 6.
The plot of the first Bully follows teenager Jimmy, who enters a strict private school. He must assert his authority among the other students and navigate the school year to his advantage.
Previously, new rumors emerged about gameplay mechanics for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6, which may feature a crime system similar to that in Red Dead Redemption 2.
