IceSitruuna, the studio behind Frontier Hunter: Erza's Wheel of Fortune, has announced a new game titled Parasite Mutant. The project draws inspiration from the cult classic Parasite Eve, which debuted on the PS1 back in 1998.
Set in the distant future, Parasite Mutant puts players in the shoes of Nova, a psionic agent sent to an abandoned and isolated island city infested with terrifying mutants. As Nova explores the city, the events she uncovers will completely alter her fate. The game is slated for release on PlayStation 5 and PC in 2026, and already has a Steam page.
Parasite Mutant’s combat system is built around Active Time Chains (ATC), a mechanic that blends the late-’90s Active Time Battle system with a three-segment action chain. Players will need to carefully time their attacks and decide when to spend energy on abilities—all while dodging enemy strikes.
Visually, the game features a semi-realistic anime style enhanced with modern rendering techniques. The developers have also included retro and CRT filters to capture the atmosphere of late-’90s and early-2000s games.
Players will face a variety of mutants and solve puzzles as they gradually uncover the universe’s terrifying secrets. The progression system is based on classic gear upgrades: equipment can be enhanced with various modules and Plus Points earned in combat. A New Game+ mode lets you carry over Plus Points from previous playthroughs, unlocking new areas and endgame challenges. The game will also feature a costume change system.
Meanwhile, a full-fledged remake of another survival horror icon—Silent Hill—is in development. That project is being handled by Bloober Team (the studio behind the Silent Hill 2 remake) under the supervision of Konami.
