Konami Promises Every New Silent Hill Will Be Unique

Konami is pleased with the success of Silent Hill f, which launched in September to positive reception from both critics and players. While the project stands out from previous entries in the series, the new formula worked. However, the studio has no plans to repeat its style and mechanics in the future.

In an interview with IGN, series producer Motoi Okamoto stated that every future entry in the franchise will be different from the others. The developers intend to keep experimenting with both gameplay mechanics and storytelling:

Each game will have its own distinct flavor. We want to keep experimenting and be ambitious — in terms of both gameplay design and storytelling.
— Motoi Okamoto

According to Okamoto, he initially feared that Silent Hill f would receive mixed reactions due to its bold design choices, but in the end, it was met with mostly positive reviews. Konami also stressed that it does not want the series to fall into monotony or suffer the same fate as other franchises, where new entries often feel like simple reskins of older ones. Still, at the heart of every game will be a psychological story, as this is what defines Silent Hill.

It’s worth noting that this approach does not apply to remakes — as seen with Silent Hill 2, which stayed faithful to the original. Instead, the experimentation will focus on new entries, keeping the series fresh and players on their toes.

As for Silent Hill f, the game sold one million copies within just 24 hours of release, surpassing Silent Hill 2 Remake from Bloober Team in that regard. You can read our review of the new full-fledged installment here, along with a complete guide to the game.
