Resident Evil Requiem Will Bring Back Boss Fights in the Spirit of the Early RE Games

Capcom continues to share new details about the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem. In an interview with Automaton at Tokyo Game Show 2025, game director Koshi Nakanishi noted that boss battles in the new installment will be closer in style to the original Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2.
According to the developers, players won’t be engaging in flashy shootouts as much as relying on ingenuity and exploring confined spaces, gradually expanding areas as they progress. This approach is directly tied to the new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, who replaces Leon Kennedy.
Of course, there will be boss battles. However, rather than defeating enemies in a flashy manner as you progress through the game, like in games that emphasize gun shooting action, the style is more like Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2, where players expand their exploration area in a closed space and overcome obstacles using their wits.
The team emphasizes that Grace’s growth will be a central element of the game. At first, she is frightened, but gradually she gains determination and learns how to fight back. Trailers have already shown her wielding a handgun and a revolver — symbols of her readiness to fight. In addition to firearms, players will also have knives and other melee weapons, offering new tactical options.
Capcom stresses that the goal of Requiem is to put an even stronger emphasis on the “survival” in survival horror, while still preserving the series’ trademark boss encounters.
Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled to launch on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC (Steam). Recently, fans noticed that Capcom quietly fixed several details criticized in the second trailer, and PC specifications used for the demo have also surfaced.
