GTA 6 on Switch 2? Insider Dispels Rumors and Explains Why It’s Unlikely

Discussions about a possible release of GTA 6 on Nintendo Switch 2 have flared up again online, but one of the industry’s trusted insiders, journalist Reece Reilly from Kiwi Talkz, quickly moved to set the record straight.

According to Reilly, about two months ago he heard a rumor from an employee at Rockstar’s India office that the studio had supposedly discussed porting GTA 6 to the new Nintendo console. The reason, the source claimed, was Microsoft’s “strange decisions,” which could allegedly undermine Xbox and negatively affect the game’s initial sales, prompting Rockstar to consider a backup plan. Reilly emphasized that he initially viewed this information skeptically, although some of Microsoft’s actions do raise questions.

In a subsequent post, the insider clarified that he does not believe these rumors and does not want fans to hold false hopes. He listed several reasons why the source is unreliable:

  • The source had previously provided inaccurate information;
  • It’s doubtful that a regular employee at Rockstar India would have access to high-level confidential data;
  • The weak CPU of the Switch 2 makes running GTA 6 technically unfeasible;
  • The majority of Rockstar’s revenue will come from the PC version and online mode, so the company is not overly concerned with initial sales on other platforms and is prepared to play the long game.

Thus, despite the rumors, a GTA 6 release on Switch 2 remains highly unlikely, and the insider advises not to take such claims seriously.

GTA 6 is scheduled for release on May 26, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. No information about a PC version has been confirmed yet, although there are rumors about an updated crime system.
