Years later, images from a canceled version of Max Payne 3, which was originally planned to take place in Russia, have resurfaced online. One of the screenshots even shows the towers of Moscow State University (MSU).
Although they were only recently noticed, the images were actually uploaded a year ago on ArtStation by artist Imkan Hayati, who had previously worked with Rockstar Vienna. This branch of the studio was developing the first build of Max Payne 3, where the protagonist was supposed to travel to Russia following the events of the sequel. However, the studio was shut down, and only years later did the first concept art leak. Now fans have a chance to see what Max Payne 3 was originally envisioned to look like.
The final version of Max Payne 3 was released in 2012, with the story shifting to sunny Brazil. Recently, a rumor surfaced suggesting that Rockstar may be working on a re-release of the game for modern platforms. In addition, remakes of the first two Max Payne titles are currently in development at Remedy.
