Baldur's Gate 3 Publishing Director Сriticizes Elon Musk's AI-Generated Game

Michael Douse, publishing director at Larian Studios, shared his thoughts on the new project from Elon Musk's xAI studio — the first AI-generated game from the company, set to release in 2026. Douse believes that while AI can be a useful tool, it does not solve the industry’s core problems: leadership and vision.
This industry doesn’t need more mathematically produced, psychologically trained gameplay loops. What it needs are worlds that people want to engage with. AI is a tool, but all the tools believes in the world don’t make up for the incredible lack of clear direction. AI won’t solve the industry’s biggest problem, which is leadership and vision.
Expanding on his point, Douse emphasized that success will come to those who create games for people, with respect for craft and human input, rather than purely for profit. He stressed the importance of human expression and interaction, criticizing technology-driven approaches that focus only on faster production or cost-cutting.
These views are echoed by Swen Vincke, head of Larian Studios, who previously urged caution with fast and cheap projects, noting that such practices have never produced quality results in the gaming industry.
Earlier, the creator of Split Fiction and It Takes Two called out the game expected to win the top award at The Game Awards 2025.
