Absolum, a brand-new beat 'em up announced earlier this March, has just been released on PC (Steam), PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. The game is published by Dotemu, the studio behind hits like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge and Streets of Rage 4.

Set in the original world of Thalam, Absolum throws players into a kingdom torn apart by a magical cataclysm. The Sun King Azra has enslaved the realm’s sorcerers and established a brutal tyranny — now, a band of exiled heroes rises up in rebellion.

Players can choose from a cast of characters with unique fighting styles, from the necromancer swordswoman Galandra to the explosive dwarf Karl, and battle against the forces of Azra’s Order. Combat features a mix of strikes, magic, and counterattacks for dynamic and strategic encounters.

The game offers fast-paced battles, flexible strategies, and the option to play the campaign solo or in co-op.

With roguelite elements, each run is unpredictable, while the game’s rich visual style and atmospheric soundtrack — featuring composers Gareth Coker (Ori and the Blind Forest, Halo Infinite), Yuka Kitamura (Dark Souls, Elden Ring), and Mick Gordon (DOOM Eternal, Atomic Heart) — deepen the dark fantasy uprising vibe.

By the way, another beat 'em up, Toxic Crusaders — reminiscent of TMNT: Shredder's Revenge in both style and gameplay — is set to release this December.
