New Version of Need for Speed Underground 2 Remake in Unreal Engine 5 Shown Off

The fan-made project recreating Need for Speed Underground 2 in Unreal Engine 5 continues to evolve. The remake’s creator, known as apfelbaum, has released a new video showcasing the latest improvements in the updated version.
From the very beginning, the goal of the project was to recreate the entire game in UE5 — and according to the developer, the Career Mode is now fully playable from start to finish. This isn’t just a small portion of the original, but the complete campaign. For now, the mode lacks AI opponents, street traffic, and destructible objects from the original game, though apfelbaum promises to add them in future builds.
On the bright side, the new version of the remake features improved driving physics, an updated weather system, and a new car paint model. The creator is also developing a custom launcher that will let players easily download, update, and verify their game files.
There’s no release date yet for the next demo version, but the current build can be found on the RPGGameplay Discord server.
Meanwhile, Electronic Arts has shut down the servers for Need for Speed: Rivals, twelve years after its original release. Fortunately, single-player mode remains accessible for those who still own the game.
