Developers of 007: First Light on Young Bond: We Didn’t Want to Make Him a Superman From Day One

In IO Interactive’s upcoming spy action game 007: First Light, James Bond won’t start out as the invincible agent we know — instead, the developers want to show his journey from an inexperienced rookie to the legendary 007.
Creative director Hakan Abrak told Edge Magazine that the team deliberately avoided the image of a “hardened, cynical hero with a lifetime of adventures behind him.” According to him, that’s “not the most interesting take.”
Narrative director Martin Emborg added that the idea came from reflecting on the early films, where Bond already appears unstoppable.
In Dr. No he immediately wins at baccarat, charms a woman, drinks — and it all feels like just another Thursday to him. It’s the ultimate power fantasy, but not something players can relate to.
Thus, in 007: First Light, the agent will still be deadly but far from all-knowing: he makes mistakes, learns, fights — and, according to the creators, becomes more relatable because of it.
The game is set to release on March 27, 2026, for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2. Earlier, we gathered all the available information about the upcoming James Bond game.
