Insider: The New Halo Is Being Developed With Extensive Use of AI

It seems Microsoft is planning a massive — and rather controversial — return for Halo. According to fresh reports, generative artificial intelligence is being heavily utilized in the development of the franchise’s upcoming projects.
Previously, Halo Studios confirmed that it will reveal a look into the future of the series at the Halo World Championship on October 24, while insiders have already reported that two titles are in production: a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved and a new multiplayer game inspired by Fortnite.
Now, according to reliable insider Rebs Gaming, AI is said to be woven into nearly every aspect of development — from enemy behavior to procedural terrain generation. Sources claim that much of the content is being produced by AI and then refined manually. The reason is simple: tight deadlines and publisher pressure, forcing the developers to seek faster solutions.
If these rumors prove true, this could mark one of Microsoft’s largest experiments with AI integration in game development. Some speculate that this approach may have even led to internal conflicts, reportedly resulting in the departure of longtime Halo veteran and art director Glenn Israel from Halo Studios.
Earlier, Rebs Gaming also stated that the next Halo title is being developed as a live-service project, designed for long-term seasonal support and ongoing content updates. The game is reportedly targeting a 2026 release, alongside a planned remaster of Halo: Combat Evolved built on Unreal Engine 5.
