The combined gamescom asia x Thailand Game Show 2025 event wrapped up with a record-breaking 206,000 attendees over four days. The highlight of the show was the award ceremony, where French RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 took home the top honor.

Developed by the independent studio Sandfall Interactive, the game outshined heavyweights like Death Stranding 2 and Elden Ring: Nightreign, claiming the Game of the Year title. Clair Obscur didn’t stop there — it also won Best RPG, Best PC/Console Game, and Popular Vote, solidifying its position as one of the year’s biggest success stories.

The victory at Asia’s largest gaming event further cements Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as a top contender for The Game Awards 2025. Thai players praised the game’s painterly art style, rich storytelling, and unique turn-based combat inspired by fine art. Interestingly, the developers revealed that the final version only realized 85% of their original vision, hinting at huge potential for future installments.

Other notable winners included Death Stranding 2 for Best Action-Adventure Game, Elden Ring: Nightreign for Best Multiplayer Game, and Resident Evil: Requiem, crowned Most Anticipated Title.

However, Sandfall Interactive doesn’t seem too fixated on The Game Awards. According to the game’s director, the team already considers Expedition 33 a success — and he’s even shared his own pick for this year’s Game of the Year.
