Konami explains why it announced three Silent Hill games at once

Konami has revealed why, back in 2022, it announced three new Silent Hill games simultaneously. Series producer Motoi Okamoto said the company wanted to show fans just how serious it was about reviving the long-dormant franchise.
According to Okamoto, Konami didn’t want to limit itself to just the Silent Hill 2 remake as a test of interest. Instead, it decided to announce three projects at once—Silent Hill 2 Remake, Silent Hill f (our review), and Silent Hill: Townfall—to make it clear the series had a future. He noted that if a company takes a wait-and-see approach, players won’t get excited either. That’s why Konami consciously took a risk by developing both the remake and new games in parallel, aiming to "inspire the community" and win back the trust of fans.
Three years ago, in 2022, we announced three titles — Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill f, and Silent Hill: Townfall. We didn’t want to do what you might call a “test remake,” announcing just one remake to see how things go.
We wanted fans to truly feel our commitment to reviving the series. Developing a remake and brand-new titles in parallel obviously carries risks, but above all, we wanted to convey that we’re serious about this.
For a series, it’s only when new installments are announced that you can see its future. And if players can’t feel that future, they won’t be inclined to stay invested. If the company takes a wait-and-see approach, the fans will do the same. So the company must first show its genuine commitment — and then the fans can respond with genuine excitement. That’s only fair.
Since then, Konami has released several projects in the franchise—Silent Hill: The Short Message, Silent Hill 2 Remake, Silent Hill f, Silent Hill: Townfall, and the interactive web series Silent Hill: Ascension. Silent Hill: Townfall and a remake of the original Silent Hill are also currently in development. On January 23, the movie Return to Silent Hill, based on the second game, will premiere.
By the way, the Silent Hill 2 remake was recently added to the PS Plus Extra subscription.
