Leak: Early Look at Bluepoint’s Canceled God of War Multiplayer Game Surfaces Online

While Sony continues expanding the God of War universe — from the upcoming Prime Video series to rumors of a 2D Metroidvania set in ancient Greece — a glimpse has surfaced of a project that never made it to release.
The now-canceled multiplayer God of War game was in development at Bluepoint Games. Earlier this year, reports revealed that Sony had cut two live-service titles in production, one of which was this project. Thanks to insider Mp1st, early development screenshots have now appeared online, offering a rare look at what might have been.
The screenshots suggest the setting would have returned to Ancient Greece — with temples, amphorae, and classical architecture reminiscent of the original trilogy. The environments include dungeons, armories, and vast chambers clearly designed for multiple players.
One particularly intriguing detail references Hades, who was reportedly meant to own the armory surrounded by pools of sulfur. If canonical, this would place the game before God of War 3, though sources say it might have been a standalone project.
Interestingly, the art direction seems to blend Greek and Norse influences — statues resembling Spartan warriors feature design elements similar to the Einherjar from God of War: Ragnarok.
Another screenshot shows Hades’ armory afflicted by a mysterious “red corrosion” — reportedly a curse mechanic meant to impact player performance.
Ultimately, the project failed Sony’s internal viability assessment. Amid skepticism toward live-service games — as seen with Concord — the publisher chose not to move forward.
Bluepoint is now focused on a new project, with recent job listings hinting at a third-person action game featuring melee combat. Fans are hopeful this could be a remake of the original God of War. Given the studio’s acclaimed work on Shadow of the Colossus and Demon’s Souls, such a revival would be a natural fit — and some of the Greek-era assets might already be ready for use.
Earlier, we reported that Kratos’ voice actor Christopher Judge said he’s eagerly awaiting the next installment — and wouldn’t mind seeing it set in Ancient Egypt, for personal reasons of his own.
