Just Cause creator teases a dark open-world game that’s giving major GTA 4 vibes
Liquid Swords — the studio founded by Just Cause co-creator Christofer Sundberg — has finally unveiled a teaser for its debut project. Judging by the developer’s hints, a full reveal is likely coming on December 11 during The Game Awards 2025.
The short clip shows a sprawling — and very grimy — metropolis that many fans compared to GTA 4’s Liberty City. “Hope moved out. Violence pays the rent. Get comfortable,” reads the caption accompanying the teaser.

Sundberg has already assured players that the team is working on a dark, “grounded” story with no fantasy or sci-fi elements.
No. All respect to developers of fantasy/sci-fi games, but it’s just not for us. This is more like … Mad Max …. Payne.

Meanwhile, Sundberg’s former studio Avalanche is going through a rough patch. Back in August, the team confirmed it had “paused” development on Contraband, the open-world action game first announced in 2021.
