Amid The Simpsons' Return to Fortnite, Designer Reflects on Underrated 2007 Game

Alex Hutchinson, one of the designers behind The Simpsons Game, recently shared his thoughts on the project, emphasizing that, despite its popularity, the game remains underrated. In an interview, Hutchinson discussed his experience working on the game and how the unique abilities of the Simpson family members were crafted.
I think this game is underrated. Yes, it’s pretty well put together, and, you know, just being able to walk around a recreated Springfield was fun in itself.
The development of the game started with the team wanting to create something unique within the genre, and The Simpsons Game allowed players to control each family member, using their individual abilities.
We created something like a hub, the city of Springfield, where you could go on missions.
Each character was given a unique ability, and designing these mechanics was a real challenge. For Marge, they made a particularly unexpected choice.
We thought it would make sense for Marge to have the ability to mobilize the citizens of Springfield and make them fight.
However, despite their efforts, Hutchinson believes that when the game was released in 2007, The Simpsons had already lost some of its popularity due to the decline in quality of seasons four through nine.
Earlier, we reported that fans had transformed the more well-known Hit & Run into Futurama, with even the creator impressed by the mod.
