The Last of Us and Uncharted star Troy Baker has spoken for the first time about his involvement in Naughty Dog’s upcoming game Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. In an interview with ComicBook, he shared his impressions of working with Neil Druckmann and explained why he isn’t playing the lead role this time.

After years of silence, the project was officially revealed at The Game Awards 2024. Set in a distant future, Intergalactic follows a bounty hunter tracking down a criminal syndicate on a remote planet. It marks the studio’s first-ever sci-fi story and is rumored to release no earlier than 2027.

Baker noted that his creative clashes with Druckmann are “an essential part of the process”:

We were arguing just a couple of weeks ago. That’s our normal mode — we love to butt heads. During a script read I said, “Why are you jumping on me? I just asked a question!” And the team was sitting there joking, “Mom and Dad are fighting again — are we still going to Disneyland?”

This time, Baker plays a supporting role, but says that doesn’t lessen his enjoyment of the project:

I’ve had an incredible career — the industry doesn’t owe me anything. Now I just enjoy the process more than the recognition. Even if the game isn’t the ‘Game of the Year,’ what matters is that I learned something and helped bring the story home.

Baker added that he draws inspiration from George Clooney’s career, aspiring to be the kind of actor “people simply want to work with”:

If the team ends up saying, ‘He helped get the game across the finish line,’ then I’ve done my job. That’s all I want.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will be Naughty Dog’s first original universe since The Last of Us and Uncharted. The game has no confirmed release date, though the studio reportedly aims for a 2027 launch.
