Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Has Become the Worst-Reviewed Entry in the Franchise, According to Players

The Call of Duty community is, to put it mildly, shocked: Black Ops 7 is rapidly turning into one of the most controversial releases in the series in recent years — and unfortunately, not for reasons related to its gameplay merits. The campaign has disappointed even long-time fans, and the controversial use of AI-generated content has only made matters worse.

On Metacritic, the game has already been flooded with negative reviews: at the time of writing, with 279 user ratings, its average score has dropped to 1.6, making Black Ops 7 the lowest-rated Call of Duty title in the platform’s history. Previously, this “anti-record” was held by Modern Warfare 3 with a final score of 2.3.

Critics, however, view the project much more favorably — their average score currently sits at 84/100. Still, the situation may shift as more reviews come in.

Most of the criticism is aimed at the story campaign. Players claim it feels even worse than the already divisive Modern Warfare 3. User reviews point out the absurdity of what’s happening — from giant zombie bosses to flying machetes — questionable narrative choices, and the requirement for a constant online connection, a decision that has irritated the majority of fans. The AI-generated images found in the game’s “calling cards” have also drawn backlash.

It's really schizophrenia, maybe the management of Activision really should think about their mental state and undergo a full medical examination, because how could you come up with such a thing, so it's just horrible to approve it. The plot is so boring and stupid that it would be better if it wasn't.

In my personal opinion, the extensive use of AI lowers the game's rating from 2 to 1.I wonder why critics' reviews are higher than those of actual fans or regular CoD players?

the game feels like a skibidi toilet episode with blackops 2 characters.(probably skibidi toilet episode is better.)

The Steam reception isn’t much better: only 42% of user reviews are positive. Notably, critics once again seem to disagree with the general audience.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and via Game Pass.
