For a long time, there was no news about David Fincher's Squid Game spin-off, but now it's clear: the project is alive. According to the Film and Television Industry Alliance database, the series with the working title Squid Game: America will go into production on February 26, 2026, in Los Angeles.

Impressive names are working on the spin-off: in addition to Fincher, the producers include Hwang Dong-hyuk and Kim Ji-yeon — the creators of the original Squid Game. The screenplay is being written by Dennis Kelly, and among the actors, only Cate Blanchett has been confirmed so far.

The series is described as an American interpretation of the deadly game show universe's events, showing how the deadly games take place in the USA. The plot will unfold after the finale of the original's third season: the main character Gi-hun sacrifices himself to save Player 222's child, and the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) takes the infant and goes into hiding. In the final scene, he notices a new recruiter — that very Blanchett — in a Los Angeles alley.

Netflix hasn't revealed details yet, but everything points to Squid Game: America becoming a direct continuation of the Korean story. Fans hope that Fincher, known for his dark style (Fight Club, Se7en), will bring a new tone to the project — not just a repeat of the original, but something more disturbing and psychological.
