"Insane Downgrade" — Players Unhappy With Redesigned Female Characters in the Gothic Remake

Sharp-eyed gamers have spotted some notable differences in the upcoming Gothic remake compared to the original. Most notably, changes to the appearance of certain female characters and the removal of a painting from dictator Gomez’s throne room have drawn criticism.

The screenshot below shows a comparison between the female NPCs in the original game and the remake. Many players feel that the characters have been heavily censored and are far less attractive than they were in the 2001 release.

The reaction to these changes has been mostly negative, but the developers still have time to address the feedback, as the Gothic remake is slated for release in 2026 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
