While Activision continues to praise the “great response” to Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, the numbers tell a very different story. Players have criticized the new entry for its bland gameplay, odd campaign choices, and overall repetitiveness — and now the data confirms their frustration.

According to new figures from GSD (Game Sales Data), Black Ops 7 had a notably weak debut across Europe. During its first week, the game sold 63% fewer copies than its direct competitor Battlefield 6 — a title that, in contrast, has revitalized its own franchise and emerged from a long crisis with a triumphant comeback.

And that’s not all. Analyst Christopher Dring of The Game Business estimates that Black Ops 7 sold 50% less than last year’s Black Ops 6. In other words, the new installment is underperforming not just against competitors, but also against the franchise’s own previous results.

The dataset includes both physical and digital sales but excludes downloads through subscription services. This is important because a significant portion of the Black Ops 7 audience currently plays via Game Pass. Even with this factor in mind, however, the sales trajectory looks troubling.

Warning signs appeared early. During its beta period, Black Ops 7 failed to break into Steam’s top 100 best-selling titles, and its pre-orders reportedly trailed behind those of Black Ops 6. On launch day, the number of concurrent Steam players also landed far below previous franchise benchmarks.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Notably, Black Ops 7 has also become the lowest-rated entry in the franchise based on user scores on Metacritic — though critics, on the other hand, have been far more positive.
